DSA & our Socialists
In Office are focused on:
Taxing The Rich
-
As Trump decimates our social safety net and starves our state, we are fighting for the dignity of every person who lives in New York, and for true economic democracy.
Through vocal advocacy and public pressure on the Governor and legislative leadership, we are fighting to pass the “Fair Share Act” (S.8577-Liu/A.8953-Souffrant Forrest) that would allow NYC to enact a 2 percent surcharge on income over $1 million, make income taxes more progressive (S.1622-Jackson/A.1281-Meeks), and raise corporate taxes on the most profitable corporations (S.953-Hoylman/A.1971-Kelles,Shrestha).
To bring about true economic democracy and build a state working-class people can afford to live in, we must raise taxes on the wealthy. Socialists in Office have been consistent advocates at the forefront of demanding a more equal distribution of wealth, ownership, and control. In 2021, the first year we had an expanded group of State Socialists in Office, we won historic tax increases on the wealthy and big corporations.
Socialists in Office are leading a historic battle to raise taxes on the super wealthy to fund essential services like childcare and public transit for everyday New Yorkers.

No family should be in debt from childcare or student loans. Socialists in Office lead the charge to expand and fully fund public education at every level, from universal childcare starting at six weeks, to tuition-free CUNY/SUNY education.
After securing state funding for a massive expansion of childcare, we are continuing to fight for statewide universal childcare (BILL) and the revenue necessary to sustainably fund universal childcare access. As public schools face down the threats of privatization and repression, Socialists In Office are consistent advocates for public education, opposing charter expansion and supporting academic freedom. We are also advocating for free public education for every New York student through college, with a New Deal for CUNY and a tuition-free SUNY.
